If you are into pool, you know that there is not much more of a training aid than practicing and taking the same shots over and over again. A good way to train is just to roll the balls out on the table and work on making your shots. Put them in different places such as up against the rail or at tight angles to get really good. Another good way to train is to play on different tables because not all tables are the same size. A local pool hall will probably have much bigger tables than your local bar or hangout spot. it is important to get good on all sizes of tables so that your shot is not thrown off when you suddenly move from a professional sized table to a game room sized table.

It is important to keep your table in good condition by keeping it covered. Do not sit on the table because that will throw it off balance and it won’t seem so new when you play. Also, use special oil for wood to put on the edges of the table to make it look sleek and shiny. The balls should also be cleaned monthly with special oil to insure that they are top quality. You may also want to get a table brush to rid lint or hairs that may fall on the table. it may not seem like a big deal, but when the ball suddenly changes speeds after you hit it, you will be glad that you bought a table brush so that you can clean the table.

As a beginner and a pro in billiards you will need your cue stick and chalk. The table is not a necessity because you can go to pool halls and pay a cheap price to rent a table for hours at a time. You may also want to invest in a case that will be used to carry your stick and any supplies that you have. Make sure to get a big case to insure enough room in case you get multiple cue sticks in the future. As you get more advanced in billiards you may want to think about getting a sleeve for your hand to help the stick slide easier when you are taking a shot. Also, you will want to have a designated stick for breaking the rack so that you do not ruin the tip on the other stick that is used just for taking shots.
